What we check
An AI citation audit needs to explain the result and where to act. These are the six checks used to structure the work.
Map discovery, comparisons and decision questions to your actual products, audience and market. Keep branded and non-branded prompts separate.
Record a brand mention separately from a linked citation. Capture the answer, source URL, platform, date and test conditions so another person can check it.
Check whether descriptions of your business, products and expertise match information you can substantiate. A mention with the wrong offer is not a useful win.
Compare the pages that are cited with your own. Look for missing explanations, first-hand examples, author context and independently checkable evidence.
Review the relevant pages for crawl access, indexability, canonical signals, rendering and clear internal paths. Technical availability does not guarantee citation.
Where analytics access is provided, separate observable AI referrals from mentions that produce no visit. Connect visits to qualified enquiries without claiming to track every AI interaction.
Method, not mystery
We start with your offer, priority buyers, geography and competitors. A prompt register records the questions, intent and platform selection. The number of prompts and repeat checks belongs in the agreed scope.
Record the exact wording, date, platform or model where shown, location and session conditions. Repeat selected prompts rather than treating one answer as a stable ranking. Note when an AI Overview does not appear.
Separate observations from hypotheses. Each recommendation names the affected page, evidence, suggested owner, effort and acceptance check. Your team can see what needs fixing before buying ongoing work.
Answers change with wording, time, platform, location and personalisation. There is no universal “AI rank”, and no audit can guarantee a recommendation. We follow Google’s guidance for AI search alongside normal technical SEO and useful, verifiable content.
Example deliverable
This worked example uses a fictional learning-platform business. It demonstrates the format; it is not a measured finding or an approved case study.
Audience, buying question, page purpose, evidence required, subject expert and the next action the page should support.
Affected URLs, reproducible issue, business impact, owner, dependencies and a pass/fail check after implementation.
Test dates and conditions, mentions versus citations, source URLs, changes since the previous test and next actions. Analytics results are included only when available.
Questions worth testing
For an education business, we might review course discovery and parent comparisons. For a B2B company, integration, security and implementation questions may matter more. Your market determines the test set.

Before you request a review
Use a small set of real buyer questions, record the exact prompts and save the answers with dates. Separate brand mentions from linked citations, repeat selected tests and verify claims against the cited pages. One answer is a snapshot, not a reliable overall visibility score.
The scope can include ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews or AI Mode where available in the relevant market. We agree the platforms and test conditions first; access and feature availability can vary.
Yes. This page focuses on AI prompts, mentions, source citations and evidence gaps. The general visibility review starts with a wider business problem across search, paid media, content or the website.
An initial discussion needs your website, offer, audience and priority market. A deeper audit may need read-only analytics and Search Console access, plus product or subject-expert input. Do not send passwords through the form.
The initial review and discussion are no-obligation. A full audit is scoped separately around the platforms, prompt coverage, website size and reporting required. You receive the proposed scope and fee before agreeing to paid work.
No. Platforms control their answers, and mentions do not automatically produce visits or enquiries. The audit provides evidence, a prioritised plan and a way to check progress—not a guaranteed ranking or revenue outcome.
